Leeds interested in St. Pauli's Becker? - Bielsa photographed with scout report
Marcelo Bielsa has not even renewed his own contract at Leeds United but the Argentine is already planning the future of the promoted Premier League side. The 65-year-old was photographed in downtown Leeds while working through scout reports—at the top of the pile: FC St. Pauli's Finn Ole Becker.
The 20-year-old has been a regular starter at the Kiezklub this season and saw his market value grow to €2 million. Becker's contract runs until 2022 but with the amount of money promoted teams receive in England a transfer would not be a problem for the Peacocks.
Whether Leeds is truly interested is another question. Clubs usually scout many players and scout report books are often longer than the bible. But Leeds-Live reported that Leeds' sporting director Victor Orta makes the preliminary decisions on transfers. That suggests that Becker has already passed the first screening and that the decision now lies with the head coach whether the player fits in the squad.
Leeds manager Bielsa is known for attention to detail - Need on Becker's position
Bielsa is known for his attention to detail in the season preparation and ahead of any game prepares detailed reports and analysis. As a result, it makes sense that he also does it for players he is interested to add to his team.
El Loco usually plays with two central and at least one, sometimes two, attacking midfielders. Aside from star Kalvin Phillips, Leeds have Mateusz Klich, Jamie Shackleton, and Pablo Hernández under contract. Adam Forshaw has been out with a hip-injury since October 2019 and Stuart Dallas is nominally a left-back. Whether Ouasim Bouy, Conor Shaughnessy, Robbie Gotts, and Alfie McCalmont will play a role in the squad next season remains to be seen.
